Octopus Energy reaches 8 million customers in the UK

Octopus Energy has announced a major milestone, surpassing 8 million home energy customers in the UK, further strengthening its position as the country’s largest energy supplier.


The growth highlights a significant shift in the energy market, with more households moving towards providers offering transparency, support, and innovative technology.

Rapid growth across the UK


According to Octopus, the company is currently gaining around 2,500 new customers every day, reflecting strong demand from households seeking stability in a volatile energy market.


This milestone builds on Octopus becoming the UK’s largest supplier in 2025 — the first time the top position has changed since privatisation in 1986.



Supporting customers beyond energy supply


Alongside its growth, Octopus continues to expand its customer support initiatives.


These include:


  • A £40 million Octo Assist fund to help customers in need

  • The “You Pay, We Pay” scheme, which has already helped 110,000 customers reduce energy debt

  • Ongoing support schemes such as its electric blanket programme


These initiatives are designed to provide practical support and help households manage energy costs more effectively.



Driving the shift to home-grown energy


The milestone also reflects growing interest in generating energy closer to home, with more households investing in low-carbon technologies.

According to Octopus Energy:


  • Heat pump sales have doubled

  • Solar installations have increased by around 75%


This trend highlights a broader move towards homes playing a more active role in how energy is produced and used. By generating electricity on-site and adopting low-carbon heating, households are becoming less dependent on traditional energy supply models.


As uptake continues to grow, these technologies are helping reshape how energy is managed at a household level — giving customers more visibility and control over their energy use, while supporting a more flexible and resilient energy system.
